Vector Self Portrait

Goal:

To create a vector drawing based off of a picture of ourselves, using Adobe Illustrator’s pen and brush tools.

Process:

The first step was to bring the original photo into Photoshop to create a posterized version. This process made it easier to see where the blocks of colours were to create midtone, highlight and shadow shades for the face. Creating facial features was next as well as the base of my shirt. I added a pattern fill into the shirt path to mimic the real pattern in the real photo I was working off of. After working with the pen and brush tools to add details like eyelashes, eyebrows and the little sparkle in the corner of my eyes, the project was complete!

Using Illustrator’s live colour wheel I created an alternate colouring with a blue monochome effect. I had always wondered what I would look like with blue eyes… and skin?!
